Beef Stew
Ingredients
- 2 tbs all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 lbs beef chuck cut in 1-inch cubes
- 2 tbs shortening
- 2 cans condensed tomato soup 10 1/2 oz each
- 1 1/2 cups onion chopped
- 1/2 tsp dried basil crushed
- 4 medium potatoes pared and cubed
- 4 medium carrots cut in 1-inch pieces
- 1/2 cup dry red wine or water
Instructions
- Combine flour, salt, and dash pepper.
- Coat meat cubes in seasoned flour.
- Add soup, 2 1/2 cups water, onion, and basil.
- Cover and bake in 375o oven about 1 hour.
- Add potatoes, carrots, and wine.
- If the gravy needs thickening, combine 1 to 2 tbs. flour with water to form a thick paste and add to stew.
- Cover and bake 1 hour longer or until tender.
- Makes 4 to 6 servings.
